Iwamoto 2007 has ended! (July 12th, 2007)

Dear Contestants:

The tournament has reached his end, and we want to thank every one of you for helping to make this a great tournament. Without your participation this tournament wouldn’t have been possible.

Congratulations to Zhou Xiang , our new champion, who ended the tournament undefeated. We want to compliment Zhou Xiang and Changlong Wu, who were leading until the final round. They made a great effort to find a feasible time to play his final round game, within a big difference between their time zones. As they, many other, players were making great efforts and show flexibility to play their games and make this tournament a success.

Congratulations to Singapore, champion of the overall country cup . Singapore gave the great surprise of this tournament by winning the overall country cup and leaving the always favourites countries, Finland and United States, in second and third place respectively.

In category one the champion is Canada. Even though at the beginning of the eighth round China was leading the category by SOS points, Canada was able to overcome the difference and won the category by SOS point, with the same amount of points as China. In third place of category one is Romania beating New Zealand and Finland by SOS points.

In category two the winner is Finland, by a wider margin than other categories, leaving behind the United States by two points, in third place came France.

Category three also had a very close end, just as category one and four. The champion of this category is Germany, who beat Finland by SOS points in a really close end. Just one point behind is the United Estates that arrived in third place.

Category four had the closest end of all the categories. In first place is United States and in second place, just 1 SOS point behind, is Colombia. We would like to thanks to the competitors of these two countries for giving us such a close end. In third place is France just one point behind

In category five , the difference was bigger: the winner is Turkey with a 3 points lead over the United Estates, which came in second, and in third place came Colombia, 2 points behind.

To see the individual results, visit the Results section. The winner of each category will pass to the Iwamoto Tournament Hall of Fame, that is now under construction.

Once again, thanks for playing this tournament in honour to Iwamoto Kaoru sensei , who made a great effort spreading go in Occident , and thanks to all the people behind the tournament.

If you have any suggestion, we will be happy to receive it, just write us to iwamoto@achgo.cl

Eighth Round opening (July 5th, 2007)

Dear Contestants:

The final round has begun. Singapore continues leading the overall cup with Finland and United States just 1 point behind. Category one is really close with Canada and China tied in points but China is leading with more SOS points. In category two Finland is leading comfortably meanwhile in category three Germany is leading but Finland is just 1 point behind In category 4 and 5 there is going to be a really close end since there is a tie in points and the SOS points are defining the winners. We encourage you to play the last round to help your country since there are no winners yet and everything will be defined in the final round.

As the tournament comes to an end we hope you had a great time playing and hopefully you were able to meet new people and improve your go level. We would like to thank you for participate in the tournament moreover we wish you participate in the next year tournament.

Seventh Round opening (June 28th, 2007)

Dear Contestants:

Round seven has begun. There are only 2 rounds left and Singapore is leading the overall country club while Finland and Colombia are close just 1 point behind. We can see a really close competition in the country cup of category 1 with China at the lead but several countries following close behind. All the other country cups in the different categories are very close, so every cup will be fought until the final round.

As the tournament comes to an end the final rounds are crucial in the fight for the country cup and in the individual categories. Every point you win is a help for your country in the overall country cup and in the country cup by category so we encourage you to play your best until the end.

We wish good luck, and we hope you enjoy the final rounds.

Sixth Round opening (June 21th, 2007)

Dear participants, we ara glad to announce the beginning of the sixth round.

At this stage of the tournament, there is no undefeated country in the Country Cup, however, this year Turkey is leading the race, but Singapore and Colombia are very close, just one point behind, and teh classics contestants of the Country Cup, United States, Finland, Germany and Argentina, are two points behind Turkey.

The Best luck to all of you, and keep on the spirit.

Fifth Round opening (June 14th, 2007)

Congratulations to all the participants, you have reached the second half of the tournament!

A new concern has come to our mail: If you played a delayed game, and reported the result to us, or if you need to edit some misgiven result, the the updated data will be available at that point from the temporal statistics and results pages, but the scores will be updated when a new round begins.

The always seeking but secret and hidden Iwamoto Journalist tells us that three countries are still undefeated. It's time for the other countries to come back and try to win the Country Cup.

Don't think that if you lose your games, there's no point in sticking in here. By just playing you're supporting your country, and even a single win can take the definitive point.

The Best luck to all of you, and keep on the spirit.

Fourth Round opening (June 7th, 2007)

Dear Contestants:

The 4th round of Iwamoto 2007 Tournament has begun. The excitment is rising, as the matches are set, and new chances to learn are to start. Everyone has still a chance to win, and to contribute to the Country Cup. Colombia is, for example, in the undefeated group.

This is the match of the middle, once over the round, the chances to revert the situation will be decreasing, so put all your effort now, and never give up!

Nothing is settled, nothing is definitive.

Good Luck to Everyone!!!

Third Round opening (May 30th, 2007)

Dear Contestants:

We are glad to announce the beginning of the 3rd round of Iwamoto 2007. Last year in a tight ending, USA obtained the 1st place in the Country Cup. Due to actual positions, it seems that USA wants to win again.

But, will France, Colombia, Germany, Argentina, Finland, Romania, Turkey, Canada, Singapore, Spain, Russia and all the other countries let this happen so easily? We don’t think so.

The Tournament is just starting, and the winner of the precious title is uncertain, but we can give for granted that an exciting and remarkable dispute is ahead of us.

Good Luck to Everyone!!!

Registration (April 30th, 2007)

Welcome to the Iwamoto Tournament 2007.

We are glad to let you know that the Registration Process for the Iwamoto Tournament 2007 has begun.

This is the fourth version of this tournament which is organized every year by Achgo and AAGO in honour of Iwamoto Kaoru Sensei.

Last year we congregated more than 500 players around the tournament and we were very happy for that amount of participants; this year we hope to have an even better tournament, so we encourage you to play giving your best and looking forward on learning and progressing than just focusing on winning or losing.

We have 2 great news about this year's tournament:

KGS Plus! has decided to sponsor the tournament and will be giving a 1 month subscription for the winner of each category!

Also, we are very glad to announce that this year, as in 2005 and 2006, there will be an extra cup: The Country Cup.

Because of it's great success, we have improved the mechanics in order to have more people participating in this challenge:

This year we will have one Country Cup for each category!

The mechanics are as follows: At the end of the tournament, we consider, in each category, the best three players from each country and add the points, SOS, and SOSOS to create an equivalent "country representative". The best such representative wins.

Also, we want to keep the Country Cup we have last year: It consider best five players from each country and add the points, SOS, and SOSOS to create an equivalent "country representative".

Note that only players that have played until the last round are considered, so we encourage you to help your country and play your best until the last round.

There will be medals for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each category.

We would also like to remind you that you need a confirmed rank (without ? or -) to play the tournament, so if you haven't confirmed your rank, please do so as soon as you can.

If you have any doubt about the Tournament, please visit the Tournament Rules by clicking the link in the navigation bar.

If you don't find your answer there, do not hesitate to send your comments to iwamoto@achgo.cl.

Thank you for participating in Iwamoto 2007
